Seniors on the go!Seniors on the go

This article appears in the March 2010 edition of Sportshorts.

Late last year, Lake Burrendong Sport and Recreation Centre held its 10th Active Life Weekend.

About 70 older adults took part, looking for a fun, active and enjoyable weekend in regional NSW. Participants hailed from Orange, Blayney, Bathurst, Warren, Narromine, Maitland, Deniliquin and Sydney.

With ages ranging from 45 to 90, these lively seniors took part in archery, Lifeball, pole walking, boccia, sitting volleyball, raft building, aqua aerobics and bushwalks to the nearby Arboretum to look at displays of trees and plants.

The highlight of the weekend was when 90 year old Leo Pearn (pictured) participated in the Flying Fox. Leo volunteered to go first and scaled the ladder with great speed.

With no fear he jumped off the platform and sped along the Flying Fox, proving that age is no barrier.
