School camps

Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre is a rural retreat in the heart of the Riverina district, 20 minutes’ drive from Wagga Wagga. Around six hours from Sydney, its proximity to Canberra and the Snowy Mountains provide opportunities for additional educational excursions for school groups.

The Riverina is also famous for its produce and is the largest wine-producing region in the country. Plus there’s a working farm right on-site, so a school camp at Borambola is a rare opportunity to explore the state’s fascinating rural heritage.

The excitement of adventure activities like high and low ropes courses, rock climbing, orienteering, canoeing and bivouac make camp at Borambola something to look forward to.

School camps - challenge, experience and grow!

Primary schools

The focus for primary school camps is the development of social skills and independence. A primary program promotes active and healthy lifestyles, introduces students to outdoor and environmental education, and is adaptable to suit each group’s needs.

Programs are designed to meet the outcomes from Key Learning Areas, through activities suitable for primary-aged students such as archery, rock climbing, canoeing, low ropes course, kayaking, initiatives and cookout.

Our children were exposed to a wide range of exciting physical, social and educational activities. Turvey Park Public School

Camp activities meet outcomes from the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education syllabus and promote skills associated with syllabus areas for Human Society and Its Environment.

Alpine Experience

This program combines a stimulating outdoor education program with an exploration of the beautiful Snowy Mountains. The Alpine Experience includes a one-day excursion to explore places like Kiandra goldfields, Talbingo Snowy Hydro, Yarrangobilly Caves and Mt Selwyn Snowfields. The program can be tailored to meet units of work from the K-6 Science and Technology syllabus.

Secondary schools

Secondary school students participate in outdoor recreational activities while also addressing aspects of the syllabus, particularly in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

Promoting active and health lifestyles, the activities also help to broaden students’ choice of pursuits, hobbies and careers.

Activities popular with secondary students include kayaking, tubing, flying fox, climbing wall and challenge high ropes course.

HSC outdoor recreation option

This 3-day program gives Stage 6 PDHPE students an opportunity to explore aspects of their classroom learning in a real outdoor environment.

Borambola is located in a beautiful setting and the facilities are absolutely first rate. Clearly staff take a great deal of pride in the facilities and the quality of the programs offered. Anson Street School

Crossroads

Crossroads is a mandatory personal development and health education course for all Year 11 students in NSW government schools. It covers issues concerning relationships, sexual health and drugs. Activities and workshops facilitated by centre staff help students to reflect upon and share issues that are important to them.

Study skills

A study skills program can be complemented with outdoor education activities that reinforce key themes. Through experiential learning activities, games and discussions, the study skills course covers time management, planning and priorities, motivation, goal setting, study techniques and exam preparation.

Equipped for life

Equipped for life personal leadership workshops develop living skills through experiential learning activities. Underlying themes include the importance of taking responsibility, setting goals and priorities, teamwork, cooperation and effective communication.

Peer support and orientation camps

To help in the transition from primary to high school, schools can incorporate activities available at Borambola with their peer support programs. Senior students run the leadership sessions and participate in activities with Year 7 students. Orientation camps can also be incorporated with peer support for new students.
