Child protection officer

Child protection officers coordinate child protection activities and communicate the importance of child protection to members of your club.

If your club has a Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO), child protection may be part of their responsibility.

Child protection officer role

1. Meet legal requirements

• coordinate the Working with Children Check

2. Set up policy and procedures

• create a child protection policy and allegations procedure

3. Communicate constantly
Using your club website, newsletter and meetings, make sure everyone at the club understands:

• the child protection officer role – and that people can come to you with concerns
  
• the importance of child protection
  
• the club child protection policy, procedures and codes of conduct.

4. Coordinate child protection training for key people

5. Manage allegations effectively

• manage allegations or allegations according to club policy and procedures
• know the Community Services reporting processes and contacts.
