PLEASE NOTE: The Department will require either an ABN or the ATO's exemption statement ('Statement by a supplier') before making grant payments. Unless an organisation can provide an ABN or a signed statement (ATO's 'Statement by a supplier'), indicating that the payment is exempt from the withholding tax provision under the Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) legislation, the Department will not pay the grant as the Department would be required to withhold 48.5% of the grant. This could adversely affect an organisation's capacity to complete the project within the time frames required. Applications lodged by Local Government Authorities do not need to supply an ABN as the grant has been determined to be an appropriation not a supply.
