Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre enjoys a magnificent natural location on the North Coast of NSW that is the envy of five-star resorts. On 99 hectares of beachfront, the centre backs on to Lake Ainsworth which is a freshwater tea tree lake.
A school camp at Lake Ainsworth will be sure to make the most of the aquatic adventures this wonderful location offers. Whether it’s canoeing, sailing, fishing, snorkelling, swimming or learning how to surf, the mild climate and excellent facilities mean year-round fun in the water.
The brand new recreation hall features a multi-purpose indoor stadium with an “A Grade” timber sprung floor perfect for basketball, netball or volleyball.
Groups visiting the centre have plenty of opportunities to visit local attractions as well. They are just 20 minutes’ drive from Byron Bay, and close to attractions including national parks and sub-tropical rainforests, Ballina Skate Park and Cape Byron, the most easterly point in Australia.
The program staff demonstrated commitment, enthusiasm and integrity towards challenging, affirming and acknowledging the spirit of each child and teacher. Staff member, Goonellabah Public School, Lismore
The focus of programs for primary school students is the development of social skills and independence. A primary program is an introduction to outdoor and environmental education, and is adaptable to suit each group’s needs.
Programs are designed to meet the outcomes from Key Learning Areas, through activities suitable for primary-aged students such as environmental awareness, marine studies, archery, high and low ropes, canoeing and other aquatic activities.
Camp activities meet outcomes from the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education syllabus and promote skills associated with syllabus areas for Human Society and Its Environment.
Secondary school students participate in outdoor recreational activities while also exploring aspects of the syllabus incorporating sessions in leadership, study skills, peer support or PDHPE.
Promoting active and healthy lifestyles, the activities also help to broaden students’ choice of pursuits, hobbies and careers.
Activities popular with secondary students include surfing, canoeing, orienteering, ropes, marine studies, beach volleyball, basketball and tennis.
To help in the transition from primary to high school, schools can incorporate activities available at Lake Ainsworth with their peer support programs. Senior students run the leadership sessions and participate in activities with Year 7 students. Orientation camps can also be incorporated with peer support for new students.
Due to our coastal location we can provide the ideal opportunity for school groups to develop practical skills while covering areas of study relating to the marine studies syllabus. Activities can include sailing and introductory snorkelling as well as field studies exploring rock platforms, marine habitat and industry in the local area.
