Alpine environment field studies In this tailored program students experience the unique alpine environment surrounding the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre while exploring aspects of the Geography syllabus.
This program covers:
Stages 4-5
Stage 6
As a visiting teacher, all you need to do is choose the number of modules appropriate for the length of your program. You can focus exclusively on Alpine Environment Field Studies modules or complement them with other outdoor education activities available at the centre. We’ll do the rest!
Groups of 20 or more students can stay from three to six days. Due to environmental constraints some elements of the Alpine Environment Field Studies program are available only from November to May. Prices begin at $220 for a three-day program during Summer.
The centre can accommodate up to 260 students and 36 staff. Accommodation is in modern lodges which hold eight students per room.
Teachers stay in separate rooms with bathroom facilities in the lodges. There is also a dedicated staff room for visiting teachers with tea and coffee making facilities and television.
Walk with a guide above the tree line from either Thredbo to Mt Kosciuszko or Charlotte’s Pass to Mt Caruthers.
Using pre-Hydro Scheme maps, photos and social data students role play and plot where they would relocate the old township of Jindabyne (Stages 4-5).
A National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) slide and lecture presentation highlights the unique features of the alpine area.
Take a field trip with the NPWS and explore a variety of vegetation zones, the impact of man, park planning and management strategies.
Working as teams of expert scientists, park planners and legal advisors, students role play and gather information from a variety of sources at the Kosciuszko Education Centre. They report to the group on the unique features of the alpine area and the environmental impact of a hypothetical ski resort (Stage 6).
Students work through a series of activities learning how to read and use maps. Students use these skills to create their own maps.
Students are taken on a tour of the Jindabyne township and conduct a study into the urban and social planning of the site (Stages 4-5).
