School age SwimsafeSchool age children quickly learn how to have fun in the water and it doesn’t take long for swimming to become second nature. Swimsafe caters for beginners through to those needing stroke correction.
To join these classes, children must be going to school already, starting school in 2008, or turning five years old by 31 July 2008. These classes are based on the Royal Life Saving Society’s Swim and Survive program.

Level 1 - Water discoveryFor children who are non-swimmers, have never had swimming lessons and/or aren’t confident in the water. The aim is to develop confidence and basic skills such as submerging, blowing bubbles and safe entry and exit. |

Level 2 - Water awarenessFor children with some water confidence, who can submerge with eyes open, float with a flotation aid for 30 seconds, and can move through the water unassisted for three metres with feet clear of the bottom. The aim is to develop confidence, basic strokes skills, and breathing. |

Level 3 - Water senseFor children who can float unassisted and swim 20 metres using actions that resemble any stroke. The aim is to further develop correct stroke, endurance and basic lifesaving skills. |
Classes are held on consecutive weekdays except where otherwise noted. The length of classes varies between locations. Enrolment fees do not include pool entry which may also vary between pools.

We aim to regrade your child, if necessary, in the first lesson. However, other grades may not be offered or may be full at that venue and time: it may be necessary to place your child in a composite class.
